Thompson Vineyard is dedicated to the stewardship of land whereby the truest expression of time and place may be experienced through the yield of our collective efforts. Located in the renowned Alisos Canyon corridor three miles southeast of Los Alamos in northern Santa Barbara County, its 42 acres of cool-climate Rhone varietals stand naked on their own rootstock for the purest expression of nature’s brushstrokes.
The vineyard was planted in 1990 by David Thompson, Jeff Newton, and Juventino Cervantes, the latter of whom still farms it alongside his three family generations who have called the ranch their home since the beginning. Its steep rolling hillsides, thin sandy shale soils, cool marine air, and extremely low yields produce remarkable concentration with intense, yet elegant flavors while ideal south-facing exposure ensures optimal ripeness.
For nearly thirty years Thompson’s graceful Northern Rhone fruit profile has produced complex, long-lived wines with an exquisite balance of power and finesse. The vineyard has consistently formed the foundation for some of the world’s most lauded artisan winemakers’ highest acclaimed offerings, and today it maintains a proven reputation as one of the premier sources of ultra-premium Syrah in the United States and abroad.
