Jaffurs Wine Cellars
In the early 90’s Craig Jaffurs met rising-star vineyard manager Jeff Newton. Not long after, Jeff introduced Craig to David Thompson, whose vineyard became Jaffurs’ first Syrah source. Today, Thompson Vineyard is recognized as one of the best Syrah growing sites in the country. This single vineyard established Jaffurs Cellars on the California wine map. When the ’94 Syrah was released, Wine Spectator called it “…an outstanding Syrah” and gave it a score of 91 points. Robert Parker concurred, asking: “Wow, who are these guys?”
Today Jaffurs Wine Cellars is dedicated to producing great Rhone varietal wines with a new-world independence. The wines – Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Mourvedre, Viognier, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc – are among the best in the county. All wines are carefully made in small lots. Only about 5000 cases are produced each year – production is limited.
